Daily 5

Background

First, let me begin by saying how much I love Daily 5. A couple of years ago, I was attending a writing workshop in the month of November.  There was a bulletin board that caught my attention.  It spelled CAFE.  I asked the instructor about the it and she explained that she was preparing for an upcoming workshop on Daily 5.  She explained a little about the program and shared the book The Daily Five by Gail Boushey and Joan Moser (known as The Sisters).  I browsed through the book and during our lunch break I ordered it online.  I received the book a few days later and read it in one day.  It was an easy read and one that I had a difficult time putting it down.  I began research and preparing centers.  Blogs were so helpful.  In March, I decided to introduce Daily 5 to my first graders.  I wanted to see if they liked it and try to work out any kinks before I implemented with my class the following years.  The kids loved it and so did I.  It was wonderful to see the kids reading and for 20 minutes at a time.
